Smaller houses have turned into builder flats in most plotted colonies, putting a huge strain on resources. Can you suggest a solution?
These plotted colonies are like little islands in the middle of unauthorised construction. Adding floors to existing structures puts extra stress on resources. What is needed is to provide matching infrastructure such as increasing the water supply in proportion to the population.
MCD has made stilt parking compulsory for builder flats. Vikas Marg is a commercial road. Still there is not enough parking.
Being the only arterial road, Vikas Marg is bound to be commercial. The authorities should permit limited parking. The building typology needs to be changed.
Will that solve the problem of congestion?
Re-develop the entire Vikas Marg area step by step. There has to be trade-off between what the people want and what the city needs. And it has to be done taking into confidence all stakeholders.
There are a lot of schools within residential areas. Over the years, they have been upgraded to secondary or senior secondary schools. This creates lot of traffic issues.
When a school is upgraded to higher classes, it is but natural that the catchment area also increases. There would be more buses or other vehicles. A middle path can be better traffic management. The RWAs, in consultation with school authorities, need to put a plan in place.
