In addition to the problem with the instrument landing system (ILS), repair work on one of the taxiways connected with Runway 28 might cause more inconvenience for passengers arriving at Delhi airport.
This is because in the current situation, when one taxiway is not in use, an aircraft will take longer to vacate the runway after landing.
“Due to this we have to increase the time between two arriving aircrafts. DIAL has assured that repair work will be completed before arrival of fog but if it isn’t, passengers will face a tough time,” an officer of Air Traffic Control said.
Delhi International Airport Limited said they had planned the repair work well in advance and it would not cause any delay.
“After landing, the aircraft can vacate the runway using another taxiway. The repair work shouldn’t be of much concern even if it continues after the arrival of dense fog,” an airport official said.
The repair work, however, might affect passengers travelling with Spicejet, GoAir and Indigo since these airlines operate from terminal 1D and prefer to land at Runway 28.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) is in the process of restoring the instrument landing system to its full capability. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) is offering its resources and cooperation.
Is there any backup plan if AAI fails to rectify the problem before the onset of fog?

We had planned the repair work well in advance and it will be completed before the arrival of fog. And, anyway, the work won’t affect runway operations.
