The clash of dates of certain entrance tests and interviews at Delhi University (DU) is creating a mix of confusion and tension among applicants.
The first of the three-tier entrance test for Bachelor of Mass Media and Mass Communication (BMMMC) at Indraprastha (IP) College is slated for June 20, 2009.
The same day and around the same time Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC) is expected to conduct the interview of candidates who have cleared the journalism entrance.
Also, DCAC’s journalism entrance is going to be held on the same day as Lady Sri Ram (LSR) College — on June 18 - albeit a couple of hours apart.
Journalism is seen as a lucrative career by a lot of youngsters these days. Every year, thousands of students apply for about 150 seats in Journalism honours course offered by five DU colleges, making it one of the most sought-after courses.
Both the colleges — DCAC and LSR — are quite popular for their journalism course.
But lack of coordination among the colleges is making students worry.
Most of them feel with both the exams just a couple of hours apart it’s going to be a close call. “Why don’t they think of the students? With the kind of heavy competition these days, we can’t afford to get stuck with just one option,” said Priyanka Maheshwari, who said she always wanted to pursue a course in journalism from DU.
“We need to have some alternative to fall back upon.”
The colleges, however, insist they try their best to ensure there is no such clash, but at times it is accidental and unavoidable.
