Ridership surges to 1.3 lakh a day

The Metro rail service in the city is attracting commuters by the hordes as the ridership went up to 1.3 lakh a day from 36,000 that was recorded on Day one of its operation on June 21 last year.

The time intervals of trains running on this line has reduced to three minutes from 12 minutes a year ago with the addition of 26 new six-coach trains.

Lack of proper public transport facilities for the people of this business hub is one of the main reasons for the Metro's popularity. It added another feather to its cap with a dedicated police station at MG Road Metro station manned by a woman station house officer.
