The Delhi government is to expected to soon formulate a policy to curb the increasing number of beggars in the city.
The minister of social welfare and women and child development, Kiran Walia, decided on the need for a policy after a meeting on Friday.
“The government is committed to formulate the policy to discourage begging in the Capital and will make a way for transformation of their profession by rehabilitating them by way of imparting vocational education to them,” Walia said. The minister added that the children of beggars would be sent to schools.
The government is also planning to make a suggestion to the Centre to amend the anti beggary law by dropping its inhumane and impractical aspects.
