A milk supplier, a hotel employee and a nightclub bouncer were arrested on Saturday night for beating up an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer and his colleague in south Delhi’s Tughlaqabad.

Romil Baaniya, deputy commissioner of police (southeast), said the victim -- Sujay Kumar Sikandar -- is a corporal posted at IAF station, Tughlaqabad.

A police officer said the incident took place on Thursday night when Sikandar and his colleague were returning to the station on a bike. Their bike scraped past a Maruti Swift car on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road.

“The car driver overtook the bike after following it for some distance and forced Sikandar to stop. Two men came out of the car and began abusing and assaulting the two IAF officials but nobody from the crowd came to their rescue,” said the officer.

An onlooker recorded the assault on his mobile phone and uploaded the video on the social media. Delhi Police said the video is related to the assault on the IAF officers.

The video was later shared multiple times, with people asking the police to take action. The video clip, however, gave no clue about the exact location. It was also not clear if the incident happened in Delhi or somewhere else.

In the 33-second clip, four to five men were seen abusing the IAF officer and forcibly removing the helmet from his head. One of the assaulters, wearing a blue T-shirt, is seen slapping and punching the officer and tearing his uniform.

In the meantime, an Alto car reached there and some more people joined the attackers. “They dragged Sikandar and robbed him of his identity card and registration certificate of the bike. They all fled in their cars,” the officer said.

Sikandar filed a complaint at the Sangam Vihar police station. The police booked a case of robbery, rash driving and physical assault against the unidentified attackers.

The arrested men were identified as Nitin Gupta, a resident of Ratiya Marg, Isa from Sangam Vihar, and Neeraj, who lives with his family in south Delhi.

”We identified and nabbed three attackers with the help of their cars’ registration numbers provided to us by some locals,” said the officer.

The three were nabbed from different areas in Delhi.

Gupta is a milk supplier at Malviya Nagar, Isa is a store keeper at a hotel in Mehrauli and Neeraj is a bouncer in a nightclub at PVR complex in Vasant Vihar, said the officer.

“We have recovered Sikandar’s robbed articles and seized the Swift car in which two of them were travelling. Efforts are on to nab the other attackers,” the officer said.
