Three days after Rs 18 lakh was looted from outside a bank in Mandawali in East Delhi, robbers struck again and looted Rs 7 lakh.
Businessman Zukfikar (35), who runs a meat products business, and his assistant Aamir (25) were robbed outside Preet Vihar branch of ICICI Bank on Thursday.
The two had withdrawn money from the bank and were walking towards their Hyundai Santro car, which was parked outside the bank, when two motorcycle borne men snatched the bag from Aamir’s hand.
East Delhi is fast turning into a safe haven for motorcycle-borne snatchers and robbers.
“It happened all of a sudden and before we realized and could react they had already fled from the spot,” said Aamir.“We tried to give them a chase, but they managed to run away.”
Zulfikar said, “There was no guard outside the bank. We tried to chase them but could not catch hold of them. One of the assailants was also wearing a helmet.”
The police said they have registered a case and have launched a search to nab the accused.
There was no close circuit television camera installed outside the bank.
A police officer said, “Had the bank installed CCTV cameras outside, it would have helped in nabbing the snatchers.”
The policeman didn’t give his name, as he is not authorized to speak to media.
Pradeep Kumar, an eyewitness, said, “There were actually four snatchers. The other two were waiting for their accomplices and they all together on two bikes.”
