It was bad traffic management, coupled with scanty parking that caused an altercation that led to the death of a restaurant manager allegedly at the hands of a pilot who was there to visit the area.
The bumper-to-bumper traffic that causes Delhiites to loose their temper was the reason that triggered the incident.
Driving down Subramanium Bharti Marg, you know you are near Khan Market when you see a queue of cars waiting with their indicators blinking.
This upscale market simply does not have enough parking space to meet the influx of
an increasing number of customers.
"There is no dedicated parking facility in the market, which is why the traders got together to create a free parking facility. The market still encounters traffic jams every day," said Brij Khosla, secretary of traders' association, Khan Market.
The traders have been requesting the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to create a dedicated parking facility for the market.
Though the NDMC has proposed to build a multi-level car parking on Amrita Shergill Marg, it is still to get a nod from the urban development ministry, to which the land belongs.
"We had written a letter to the ministry some time ago, seeking possession of the plot for creating a multi-level parking. We are yet to hear from them," said a senior NDMC official on condition of anonymity.
