School bus runs over six-yr-old girl student

A six-year-old girl was crushed to death under the school bus she was travelling in. The police arrested the driver and the conductor for negligence, and registered a case in this connection. Prabhu Razdan reports.

The incident, which occurred near Greenfield area at about 3 p.m., triggered several protests and mob damaging the school bus.

The tragedy happened when the victim, Shabnam, was returning home from Murari Lal Senior Secondary school, Palla, in the school bus. When the bus reached gate number five in Greenfield area, Shabnam, in UKG, was reportedly asked to stand on the bus stairs by the conductor. However, when the driver suddenly braked, the girl fell down, came under the rear tyre.

She died on the spot.

Local residents then assembled and pelted stones at the bus and beat both the driver and conductor.

The police later arrested both driver Umesh and conductor Anil for negligence. “We arrested both the driver and conductor,” Station House officer of Surajkund Police station Jitesh Kumar said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police NIT Romesh Pal said a case was registered against the driver.

None of the school officials were available for comments.
