As the maximum temperature on Thursday touched 42.8 degrees Celsius, Delhi’s education department issued an advisory to all schools to close early for summer vacation.
Schools, however, were not unanimous in their response to the advisory.
“We have already declared vacation for primary classes. As for the seniors, we will decide tomorrow,” said Shyama Chona, Principal, Delhi Public School, RK Puram.
The entire chain of Amity International Schools would close on May 8. “May 8 is our usual date to break for summer vacation. And we have just one more week to go,” said Bharti Sharma, Principal, Amity International, Saket.
At Sri Ram School, Gurgaon, the school timings have been revised. Instead of 2.30 pm, the school will get over at 1 pm and students can be home early.
However, many schools will stick to their original timetable. “We have a school calendar and plan a lot of activities around it. Moreover, we have a weekend coming up and, hopefully, the weather will improve,” said SL Jain, chairperson of National Progressive Schools’ Conference, an association of 100 public schools.
