Shanno Khan's family filed a writ in the Delhi High Court on Thursday and the case is most likely to come up on Monday. 11-year-old Shanno died after she was allegedly subjected to corporal punishment.
The family's legal counsel Rohit Kochhar filed a writ petition seeking relief in the case. “Since the matter is coming up in the HC, it will not be appropriate to talk about the specific details. However we are seeking relief for Ayub Khan, the father of the deceased,” said Kochhar.
After recommending filing an FIR in the Akkriti Bhatia case, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPRC) today asked police to conduct a detailed probe into Shanno’s death to find out if criminal proceedings can be taken up in the incident.
The teacher allegedly made the girl stand in the sun for two hours with bricks on her shoulders.
In its statement to Delhi Police, the child rights body said, “The Commission feels that the offences relating to the deceased which make out a case of severe corporal punishment (and) presumably led to her death and needs to be investigated more thoroughly and expansively.”
“We shall appreciate if you get the entire evidence looked into by a competent law officer in order to find out whether the application of mere Section 304 (A) would suffice,” it said.
