Less than 40 hours after a BJP candidate was murdered, a 25-year-old Shiv Sena candidate was attacked by two unidentified assailants in outer Delhi’s Rohini, sector 11 on Thursday morning.
Sunil Kumar Chhikara was attacked at 10.15am when he was walking towards a barber shop in sector-11’s DDA market. He sustained two superficial stab wounds on his back and hand.
“I was in the market, when two persons came from behind and attacked me with knives. I suffered a stab wound on my back and hand while trying to resist the attackers,” said Chhikara.
“I raised an alarm, after which they fled in a car. Two other persons were already sitting in the car. I called the police and a PCR van rushed me to Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital, from where I was discharged in the afternoon,” he added.
A senior police officer said that though the victim did not lodge any complaint, but a case had been registered at the Prashant Vihar police station on the basis of the PCR call. “On the face of it, it appears to be a case of personal rivalry not linked to the elections,” the officer said.
In 2007, Chhikara was registered in a case of attempted culpable homicide not amounting to murder at the Sultanpuri police station. According to the affidavit filed by him during the nominations for the MCD polls, the case is pending before the additional session judge’s court in Rohini.
