A 23-year-old man had a narrow escape after a bullet brushed his neck outside MGF Metropolitan Mall here, police said on Sunday.
According to the police, the bullet fired by some unknown persons hit the victim identified as Teejveer Malik, driver of a private firm’s cab.
The incident took place around 4am when the cab’s occupant, a manager of the Gurgaon-based company, got inside the vehicle after a party.
The bullet brushed the driver’s neck, leaving him in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a hospital, police said.
“Around 3:30am there was a fight among some youths. As soon as a PCR van reached, all of them fled, but Teejveer did not notice the incident. Teejveer started the cab when his boss returned. As soon as he started the vehicle, someone fired at him. The bullet hit his neck,” said the victim’s brother, Rajiv Malik.
A case has been registered at the DLF Phase 2 police station.
“Teejveer was taken to police station to lodge a complaint by his company officials. He was, then, admitted to the Holy Angel Hospital. He is unable to speak as he has stiches on the neck,” Rajiv added.
The incident took place in an area, which has witnessed many cases of brawl and violence in the past. On December 31, the New Year celebrations took an ugly turn when two policemen were injured after they tried to stop a group of people who were molesting a woman on MG Road.
