Top civil society members on Friday described the Shunglu panel to inquire into the Commonwealth Games scam as eyewash and demanded a special investigation team with powers to interrogate those involved in the scam including politicians.
The group led by RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal, former cop Kiran Bedi, yoga guru Baba Ramdev and former chief election commissioner JM Lyngdoh said the terms of reference of the panel is wide but the committee has no powers.
"Shunglu Committee has been given powers of the Supreme Court judge. That does not define his powers. It only defines his perks. He will not be able to call for files, interrogate officials and politicians involved as the panel has not been constituted under the Committee of Inquiries Act," Kejriwal said.
"We want a SIT like the one constituted to investigate communal riots in Gujarat."
