An 11-year-old girl was stabbed by her neighbour, allegedly during a rape attempt, in south Delhi's Pul Prahladpur, police said on Friday.
According to police, the accused, identified as Amol Singh, had allegedly stabbed his victim three times during the rape attempt around 7pm on Thursday.
"Singh was arrested from Tughlakabad early Friday morning. He later confessed to having attempted to rape the victim under the influence of alcohol at Vishwakarma Colony," said an officer.
The victim had left her residence to fetch cold water from Singh's house when he tried to rape her and later stabbed her when he failed, police said.
She was rushed to AIIMS, where her condition was stated to be critical. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against Singh.
In a similar case, a 35-year-old man was arrested for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in west Delhi's Khayala, police said.
Identified as Harpreet Singh Sandhu, the victim, a student of class two, stays in Sandhu's neighbourhood.
"Sandhu lured the victim on the pretext of providing her some food and raped her. He threatened her with dire consequence if she disclosed anything about the incident to anyone," an officer said.
