This was one routine delivery that went awry within minutes.
A Mcdonalds’ delivery boy’s two-wheeler was claimed by an absconding gang of auto lifters from outside a girl’s hostel on January 31.
Amlesh Manjhi, employed at the fast food chain’s outlet in south-east Delhi’s New Friend’s Colony, realised that his motorcycle was lifted in some 180 seconds while he was delivering food at an all girls’ hostel in Taimur Nagar.
“At around 8pm on Tuesday, I was told to deliver food to the SPA Girls Hostel and had parked my Platina bike opposite it,” said Manjhi, a resident of Badarpur.
Manjhi reached his destination — located at some ten minutes’ driving distance from the eatery — picked-up the food from inside the plastic food carrier installed on its rear seat and crossed the road to make enquiries with the hostel’s security guard.
The guard, with orders to restrict visitors beyond official visiting hours, summoned Manjhi’s customers to the main gate by making a call on the intercom in their room as he stood waiting.
“According to Manjhi, the entire episode took place in three to five minutes. He accepted the payment made by the customers, turned around and crossed the road, when he realised that someone had run away with his vehicle,” said an investigating officer.
Manjhi spent the next half-an-hour pacing up and down the same street, wondering whether he had parked the bike somewhere else, and intimated the police when he couldn’t find it. A case has been registered.
