Congress president Sonia Gandhi has reportedly assured smooth coordination with the Trinamool Congress amid an increasing number of instances of friction between the two partners in West Bengal.
Gandhi's message to the Trinamool Congress came during a chat with a senior Trinamool minister in the UPA on the sidelines of a government programme at Vigyan Bhawan.
Although it was an informal conversation, the Congress president on Thursday reportedly told Sisir Adhikari, the minister of state (MoS) for rural development, that the Bengal government needs to work more as the state didn't see much progress during the past several years of the Left rule.
Adhikari has already informed party chief and Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee about Gandhi's message.
While emphasising on better coordination between the Trinamool and the Congress in West Bengal, Gandhi also said coordination would not be a problem as leaders like Jairam Ramesh (rural development minister) are in touch with the Trinamool leadership, Adhikari told Hindustan Times.
Gandhi's message comes days after Banerjee said in an interview she didn't intend to withdraw support to the UPA.
