The Congress on Monday said party chief Sonia Gandhi was holding consultations to work out an action plan with a quick response system to check the spurt in incidents of rape in the country.
“We will come out with a future action plan...we are working to get a swift response system,” party spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary said.
Though the government moved with extra speed and brought legislative reforms after the gang rape of a 23-year-old girl in Delhi on December 16 last year, she said it appears that was not enough.
“Today, there is a call for more. Gandhi has reiterated that we need to talk less and do more. She is the guiding spirit behind all the changes, reforms that are happening...this is being addressed internally in the party. We will come out with a future action plan. Till then, I cannot elaborate,” Chowdhary said.
Sources said Gandhi had already held consultations on how to tackle such incidents and the process is on.
Asked if Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar should resign in the wake of the heinous rape of a five-year-old girl in Delhi, she said: “If it could be so simple that you remove someone and get the action, we would do it...but it is not that… Will we always be looking for somebody else to take responsibility? Are we going to give cops the right to peep into our houses all the time?”
She termed as personal opinion the demand of her party colleague Sandeep Dikshit that Kumar should go. “This could be his personal opinion.”
