The escape of three convicted ISI agents led the Delhi Police's Special Cell to bust a module of drug runners and currency counterfeiters. On Monday, the Special Cell arrested six people after tracking them for nearly nine months.
The accused are believed to have ties with Pakistan-based smugglers. Police sources say the module was active in Delhi for two years.
The arrested men have been identified as Baldev Singh (64), Anees Khan (32), Arbaaz (18), Jarnail Singh (55), Sanaulla Meer (55) and Javed Ahmed Bhat (40).
Interestingly, the police got on the module's tail in January this year after three convicted ISI agents escaped from Lampur Detention Center. The convicted ISI agents, Abdul Razzak, Mohammed Sadiq and Rafaqat Ali (in their 30s), had served their jail term and were to be deported to Pakistan.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Shibesh Singh, said, "We interrogated Baldev, Anees and Arbaaz regarding the breakout and kept a watch on them. Then we came to know that they were part of a drugs and counterfeit currency module."
The police believe Baldev was the mastermind of the entire operation and that he knew the escaped ISI agents and was in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers.
The first of the arrests came after a trap was laid in Mongolpuri on Saturday on information that Baldev and Sanaulla would come there to deliver charas. The rest of the module members were caught after the two were interrogated.
