A 23-year-old man was stabbed to death, allegedly by a group of four men following an argument over drinking alcohol outside his house in west Delhi’s Narsingh Garden near Khyala on Thursday night.
The attackers include the victim’s neighbour, who runs a grocery shop adjacent to the man’s house and often drank with his friends at his shop. The victim, identified as Deepak Kumar, was a street hawker. He was killed in front of his family members, said police.
Senior police officers said the attackers were annoyed with Deepak because he did not allow them to drink outside his house. Deepak had threatened his neighbour to file a police complaint against them and they frequently quarrelled over the issue.
On Thursday around 10 pm, a senior police officer said, the same group of men arrived at the shop of Deepak’s neighbour and started drinking. When Deepak saw them, he objected and requested them to leave.
“An argument broke out between Deepak and the four men over the trivial issue. When Deepak went to his home, the four followed him and attacked him with a knife,” said a senior police officer.
The attackers fled after stabbing Deepak repeatedly. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with multiple stab wounds where he succumbed to his injuries. Doctors told police that Deepak died due to excessive bleeding, the officer said.
A case of murder was registered against the four men at the Khayala police station. “All four accused have been identified and our teams are conducting raids at their possible hideouts to arrest them,” the officer said.
Police sources said that while inspecting the crime scene, investigators found a CCTV camera installed at one of the nearby houses. However, the CCTV camera did not contain any footage related to the crime.
Deepak, a street hawker at Sarojini Nagar market, is survived by his wife and two children, police said.
