Tuesday's trade union strike, one of the biggest in recent times, could cripple the country's transport, banking and postal services.
The Centre has issued a warning to its employees, asking them to desist from the strike called by 11 trade unions, including the Congress-affiliated INTUC, to protest the "anti-labour" policies of the government, rising prices and divestment in PSUs.
Millions of government employees from banks, telecom and transport sectors are planning to join the strike. "This is going to be a major movement. Apart from other issues, we are also concerned about corruption in the country," CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said.
