A first-year student at the school of information and communication technology at Gautam Buddha University has accused a professor of asking for sexual favours in return for clearing attendance.
The incident transpired on Thursday evening. A group of students on Friday marched to the office of the Registrar to file a written complaint. They demanded a swift action be taken against the accused professor of the electrical engineering department .
“He (the professor) called me to his cabin after working hours under the pretence of discussing my situation as I was going to be disbarred because of lack of attendance. He called me to stand close to him by showing me a file and the pulled my shirt and continued to forcibly kiss me,” the student said.
“A group of about 15 students accompanied me to the registrar office where I filed the complaint in the presence of the vice-chancellor,” she added.
The student alleged pressure by the management to sort things out and not to make a hue and cry of the situation. So far, the student has not filed a police complaint into the allegations.
Vice chancellor Dr JP Sharma said a committee had been formed in accordance with the Supreme Court guidelines to look into the matter.
“The student has made allegations of sexual harassment and has filed a formal complaint. The committee will now investigate and come up with its findings. This committee works independently and will submit its report once the entire incident has been thoroughly investigated,” Sharma said.
Dean of student affairs, Neeti Rana, who heads the committee said, “We will now work as per the procedure laid out. We will talk to both the parties and take into account both the sides.”
