The Delhi Police have arrested two youths, including a Delhi University student who studied at a prominent south Delhi school, for stealing luxury cars to fund their night outs with their girl friends.
The accused identified as Akshay (19), a BCom student from Delhi University, and Nitin (21), who is doing his LLB from IMT in Haryana’s Rohtak, were apprehended on New Year Eve during checking on IGNOU Road near Anupam Apartment.
The police recovered eight vehicles, including seven Honda City cars, from them.
“They were asked to stop for checking and produce car registration papers. On verification through the auto-match system, the car they were travelling in was found to be stolen from Malviya Nagar,” Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south) said.
Police said both youths are from well-to-do families and one had attended a prominent school in south Delhi.
“They used to spend their night in pubs with their girlfriends. They used to target only luxury cars, especially Honda City. They had prepared a master key to open cars,” Sharma added. The police said they used to identify a car and as soon as they would find opportunity, they would steal it.
“Both used to fix beacon lights on the stolen vehicles so that no one at the police pickets stopped them. Since they are new in this business, they were looking for suitable people to dispose of the stolen vehicles,” Sharma said.
All the recovered cars were stolen from elite South Delhi areas such as Malviya Nagar, Saket, RK Puram, Safdarjung Enclave and Hauz Khas.
