RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday played the role of a safety valve as a sulking BJP patriarch LK Advani gave vent to his grievances about the party’s functioning, two days after the duo was scheduled to meet.
Advani drove to Keshav Kunj, the RSS office in Delhi, around 10 in the morning, and emerged at about 11.15 am, after a conversation lasting over an hour.
The upshot of the closed-door meeting was, however, just a terse statement favouring consultations in future too.
“In a detailed and candid conversation, Shri Advani conveyed his views on various developments in the country and the role of the party and the broad nationalist movement led by the Sangh. It was opined that several issues need further discussion and exchange of notes at various levels. Same will take place at appropriate time,” a release issued by RSS spokesperson Manmohan Vaidya said.
“Shri Bhagwat ji also suggested that such useful exchange of views should continue in future also.”
All that the Sangh has assured the patriarch is that he’ll be heard out. But this may not suffice to please an angry Advani.
Advani had felt marginalised after Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi was made the BJP’s campaign chief without considering his proposal of a parallel election management committee under former party chief Nitin Gadkari.
Advani resigned from all party posts, only to climb down on Bhagwat’s request.
Little, however, has changed as far as Modi’s elevation is concerned after the latest meeting.
The Sangh just assured Advani, sources said, that as he was the senior-most BJP leader and Swayamsevak, the RSS would keep exchanging notes with him and deliberate on the points he had raised.
“Bhagwat ji gave Advani ji a patient hearing. We will discuss what he says within the organisation,” an RSS functionary said.
