NEW DELHI: The superintendent of the children’s home in Lajpat Nagar, who was arrested on charges of rape on Tuesday night for allegedly sexually assaulted over 12 girls aged between 8 and 10 years, shot videos of the act and photographed them.

Sources said his phone had been seized and been sent for examination.

In a statement to the police, the caretaker of the home whom the kids address as ‘mummy’ said that the girls were traumatised and shaking when they narrated their ordeal to her on June 2.

“He took the girls to a small room and locked it from inside. He fiddled with their underclothes claiming that he was doing a checkup and sexually assaulted them. First the girls resisted, then cried, but he gagged them and held both their arms with one hand as he continued to assault them. He did not let them go till he was done. One by one, he assaulted 12 girls the same way.”

The caretaker had just stepped out for a few hours and left the kids in the custody of the welfare officer, a woman, and the superintendent, Ram Sahay Meena. As the caretaker left, Meena reportedly told the welfare officer that he would take care of the girls and that she should look after the boys.

He reportedly took the girls to a room where he switched on the TV and asked them to sit there till their caretaker returned. After sometime, he reportedly asked one of the girls to come to an adjoining room with him.

“He took the girl inside and locked the room. He started touching her inappropriately, undressed her and sexually abused her. When she cried in pain, he put his hand on her mouth. After he was done, he told the girl to go out and send her friend inside,” the caretaker said.

She added, “He did the same to the next girl. The girls suffered from infection after they were abused. I got to know about this after I returned and the girls report the matter to me. I had to step out for official training.”

Meena was enrolled as the welfare officer by the Delhi government in 1998 and posted at the home since August 2015. He is a gazetted officer and was promoted as superintendent recently. He was arrested on Tuesday night.
