A little less than two weeks after the gruesome murder of 20-year-old Shobhit Modi, the Delhi Police have decided to question the suspects all over again.
Police have also decided to question nine new suspects.
At least nine suspects, sources said, belong to Modi’s vast network of friends and acquaintances. This time, however, investigators have decided to zero in on “people he used to hangout with in general” instead of just his friends.
“We have acquired several leads after questioning his friends but some of them have not provided satisfactory answers. So in the interest of a comprehensive investigation, we have decided to question them again,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).
Close to two weeks of investigations into the incident, which saw the formation of as many as eight specially constituted teams, technical assistance from the elite Crime Branch besides the questioning of at least 200 suspects, the police are yet to make any headway.
“Several of his acquaintances, including his juniors from school and a young man with whom Shobhit had an argument about his girlfriend two days before his death, are under the scanner,” said a senior police officer investigating the incident.
Investigators have also decided to question one more time the ex-boyfriend of Modi’s girlfriend.
Modi, a second-year of Information Technology at Manav Rachna University in Faridabad, was stabbed to death near his C-block residence in Vasant Kunj around 10pm while he was returning from
DLF Promenade Mall on May 5.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch, which claimed to have been closely following the trail of several local criminals after the incident, also seems to have reached a dead end.
“We are examining the case from all possible angles and hope for a breakthrough soon,” said the officer.
