Team Anna on Tuesday handed over the files prepared by them containing corruption charges against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his 14 cabinet colleagues, to the office of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
In a separate development, key Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan shot off a letter to the PM, demanding that intelligence agencies be made accountable to Parliament.
“The government should take appropriate steps to bring the Intelligence Bureau, Research and Analysis Wing and the National Technical Research Organisation, which have been operating without any parliamentary control or oversight, under legislative aegis,” he said in his seven-page letter.
“This total unaccountability to Parliament or any other democratic institution like CAG has given rise to serious cases of misuse and corruption in these agencies. India has the dubious distinction of being the only democracy in the world whose intelligence agencies have no legitimacy in the eyes of law,” Bhushan said.
Meanwhile, two volunteers of Team Anna went to the Congress chief’s 10 Janpath residence in the evening and handed over the files to her staff.
“We have handed over the files to her office,” volunteers Ram and Gopal told reporters.
The move comes a day after Gandhi took on Team Anna saying that their allegations were part of a conspiracy to level “baseless” charges against the prime minister, the UPA government and the Congress.
