A few students who qualified for the next round at St. Stephen’s College were in for a shock when they found that their names did not figure in the interview list.
After entering their application number on the college website, they found they were not eligible for the interview. “I was shocked when I found that I did not make it to the Physics (honours) interview list as I satisfy the cut-off with a 95.33% in PCM aggregate,” said Deepali Arora (name changed), an applicant.
The discrepancy—a result of a technical error—is however, being resolved. “We handle about 21,000 forms which are put through the optical scanner. There was a scanning error due to which about 0.001% of students were left out,” said KM Mathew, tutor of admissions, St. Stephen’s College.
Now, the college has decided to call back students who satisfy the cut-off mark for a revaluation of the application form. “Students who have met the cut-off can go to admission authorities to have their applications scrutinised before the interview date, after which they will be accommodated in the list if they satisfy the cut-off,” said Mathew.
While the college authorities have taken adequate measures to resolve the matter, students who have applied from other states are in for a struggle.
“The college wants either the candidate or a representative to be physically present during revaluation. But for some of us, this is not possible as we are neither residents of Delhi nor do we have relatives there,” said Raghav Batra, an outstation applicant.
But the college has made it mandatory for the applicant or representative to be physically present. “If the candidate is from any other state, then he/she must first see very carefully if they satisfy the cut-off and the riders. If they have, then they must come prepared for the interview in case the college authorities find that he/she is eligible for this round,” added Mathew.
