It is time to hang out at the air-conditioned shopping malls rather than Dilli Haat and Connaught Place. With the summers finally kicking in with all its might, Delhiites are ducking indoors to stay away from the bristling sun.
What is worse is that the MeT department has forecast a temperature of 40degrees Celsius for Monday afternoon.
On Thursday too, the city experienced high temperatures. The maximum temperature touched 37.4 degrees, four degrees above normal. The minimum was recorded at 22.2 degrees Celsius, also four degrees above normal.
For those hoping to enjoy the extended weekend, the temperatures are expected to remain very high too.
“The temperatures are expected to touch the 40-degree mark from next week. The summers have kicked in for sure. There does not seem any possibility of any rainfall in the coming five days. The heat is certainly on,” said a senior MeT official.
On Wednesday, the highest temperature was recorded at as 38.5 degrees at Palam. In Gurgaon, the maximum temperature was recorded as 37.3 degrees and at Noida it was 36.1 degrees.
“It feels like May is here. Till last year, the temperature would touch 40 degrees only in May or June. I wonder what will happen in the coming months,” said Shruti Singh, a housewife.
Students of Delhi University too are lamenting the heat.
“Our final exams are scheduled for May and June. I wonder how we will be able to stand it. The colleges should provide at least coolers in the exam halls,” said Vishvas Arora, a DU student.
