A local court has sentenced three persons to seven years imprisonment for attempting to kill a canteen worker and robbing him of Rs 40.
Additional Sessions Judge S K Sarvaria held -- Sumit, Arun and Anil -- all residents of the capital, guilty of stabbing and robbing a South Delhi canteen worker of his wallet and a pocket transistor two years ago.
Holding them guilty under various provisions of the IPC including that of attempt to murder and robbery with an attempt to cause death, the court, in a recent judgement, also imposed a fine of Rs 200 each on all the convicts.
Mohd Daud, working with a canteen at Sarai Kale Khan in South Delhi, was attacked on October 31, 2006 as he answering nature's call at a secluded place near 'Vishwa Shanti Stupa'.
They pounced upon and stabbed him when he resisted their attempts to snatch his wallet and the radio.
The court lent credence to the testimonies of Daud and canteen owner Keshav who rushed to save the victim hearing his shrieks.
The convicts who claimed implication in the case due to previous altercation with the victim, got away with a lighter punishment of seven years' jail term instead of life imprisonment, as the court allowed their mercy plea on the ground of their being young.
