The Vasant Vihar police have arrested three men on charges of robbing auto rickshaw drivers by posing as passengers.

Police said the accused, aged between 20 and 23 years, were involved in several cases of robberies that took place in the past couple of months on the infamous Nelson Mandela Road.

Albert Jojo, Dinesh Kumar and Deepak Seth were arrested following a raid conducted by a police party, comprising sub-inspector Gajendra Singh and his subordinates, under the leadership of SHO Anil Sharma, after an employee of a private bank complained to the police about three men attacking and robbing him on Nelson Mandela Road.

Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south), said the robbers are habituated to narcotics substances and rob passersby and auto rickshaw drivers under the influence of drugs.

"Their interrogation revealed that they take autorickshaws during late evening hours posing as passengers and rob the drivers of their cash, mobile phones and other belongings once the vehicle reaches an isolated place. On Monday night, they had assaulted one Madanpal, an employee of YES bank, and robbed him of cash and other valuables by pointing a knife at him," said Sharma.

An investigating officer said the three are also said to be involved in the murder of an auto rickshaw driver registered at the Mehrauli police station.
