Three persons, including a 90-year-old man and his 12-year-old grandson, were charred to death after a fire broke out at a slum cluster in outer Delhi’s Bawana area early on Thursday morning.
According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officials, the incident is suspected to have occurred due to a leaking domestic LPG cylinder at a house in the Sultanpur Dabas area. “Prima facie investigation has revealed that there was a power failure around 3:30 am, following which one of the family members seems to have lit a candle and the single-storey house burst into flames,” said a police officer.
DFS officials identified the victims as Narayan Singh his grandson Deepak and daughter-in-law Krishna, 42. Singh’s son and Deepak’s father, Rakesh, a property dealer, was away when the fire broke out.
Two fire tenders were sent to the spot and the fire was brought under control in around half an hour. The victims were rushed to the adjacent Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital where Krishna and Deepak were declared brought dead. Deepak was a student of class IV at a local government school.
Narayan was referred to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital where he succumbed to his burn injuries on Wednesday evening.
“We are investigating the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the blaze,” the officer added.
