Three persons were killed after the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a vehicle in central Delhi’s Mandir Marg area on Monday.
According to the police, the accident took place around midnight on Shankar Road. The victims were heading towards Pandit Pant Marg on their motorcycle when an unknown vehicle hit them from behind.
The impact made the two-wheeler ram the pavement. Police said that only the bike rider was wearing a helmet. The two pillion-riders were without helmets. The deceased were identified as Ramesh Kumar, Raju Singh and R Anil, all aged between 30 and 35 years.
While Kumar and Anil were residents of Seemapuri in northeast Delhi, Singh lived with his family at Pandit Pant Marg. All three of them worked as peons, said a senior police officer.
According to the official, the accident came to light after a passerby saw the victims lying in a pool of blood and called the police control room. After receiving the call, a police team reached the accident spot and found a damaged Hero Honda Passion motorcycle lying by the pavement.
“We found scratch marks on the pavement, which suggested that the motorcycle had skidded after being hit from behind by a speeding vehicle.”
"There were broken pieces of a black helmet lying on the road. By the time our team reached the spot, the victims were already taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital by a PCR van,” said the official.
At the hospital, doctors told the police that the victims were brought in a critical condition. All the three had suffered severe head injuries.
“A case of rash and negligent driving causing death was registered against unknown persons at the Mandir Marg police station. The family members of the victims were informed about the accident early on Tuesday morning,” the officer added.
