Living in Delhi and still do not have a vote here? Well, this is your chance to register as a voter and elect your choice of representative in the upcoming assembly elections.
Delhi's chief electoral office (CEO) is launching a three-week summary revision — an exercise to check the correctness of electoral rolls and give a chance to people to register as a voter or get corrections made — from July 5.
The election office is also launching a special drive to enroll young voters and is laying special emphasis on registering young women voters.
"We will hold a special one-day camp at each women's college in Delhi and are in touch with their principals. Once the colleges reopen, we will organise the camps. Students will be informed beforehand so that they have their photographs and documents ready," Delhi's chief electoral officer Vijay Dev said.
Dev added that a special day-long camp will also be organised at co-educational colleges.
The electoral office is also focusing on adding more women voters from the marginalised sections. "We have been holding camps with our all women staff in such assembly areas. We will have more such camps in these areas," Dev added.
The election office will keep electoral rolls at 2000 polling stations, 70 voter registration centres and 40 Jeevan Centres from July 5 to July 21. "This is a chance to go and check whether your name exists in the voters' list. Just having the voters' ID card does not entitle you to vote," another election department official said.
With a large number of armed forces personnel living in Delhi but not registered as voters, a special camp will also be held in Delhi Cantonment area.
The election office has roped in three voluntary organisations — Nehru Yuva Kendra, Art of Living and National Social Scheme — to create awareness among people.
