Tihar inmates rewarded for welfare activities

Ten inmates and five officials of Tihar Prisons have been rewarded for contributing towards welfare of the jail.
Among them is a man who was illiterate when he came to the jail and made efforts not only to educate himself but also to train others.
“Five jail officials, holding positions as warders and head wardens, were given a citation and awarded Rs 21,000. A prize money to the tune of Rs 11,000 and a citation was given to the inmates as recognition of their good work done,” DIG Prisons RN Sharma said, adding the efforts were recognised by Rotary Club of Delhi South End, working closely with Tihar Prisons towards supporting reformation activities inside the jail.
“The inmates and jail officials were recognised for contributing in the field of promoting art and culture, ‘padho and padho’ scheme, controlling prison violation, teaching painting, counseling inmates, among others," Tihar spokesperson Sunil Gupta said. "This was done to encourage good conduct among inmates,” Sharma said.
