To overcome its financial trouble, the cash- strapped East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has started exploring outdoor properties that can be made available to advertisers.
The corporation plans to make big bucks by providing advertising space to advertisers and marketers.
“A new advertising policy would be made for EDMC. A new option for outdoor advertising would be explored as we plan to increase our advertising revenue by three fold,” said a senior EDMC official.
All properties, including roads, commercial complexes, toilet complexes and parking lots would be identified for the purpose.
“The ground staff has been asked to identify the locations so that we can sell the space to advertisers. All this will be done keeping aesthetics in mind. We don’t want to spoil the look of the area that comes under our jurisdiction,” the officer added.
Along with this, the EDMC will also crack down on property owners who have illegally provided space to advertisers.
Last year, the unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had earned R80 crore as advertising revenue major chunk of which came from South Delhi as rates in the posh locality are more than in other localities.
“We also have a potential of earning around R30 to 40 crore from advertising though the rates here are less,” the officer added.
