The tension mounts as Delhi University Students Union members try to forcibly enter the Gargi college in south campus.

Chaos and confusion greeted students outside Gargi College on Saturday. Tension mounted as Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) members tried to forcibly enter the campus. Police tore banners and destroyed temporary stalls. Gargi College Students Union president Rashee Mehra and other members guarded the college gates and restricted entry of DUSU members.

“We have been facing this problem of DUSU wanting to force their way inside the campus from the last two years. We have to bring in the police for our protection,” said Dr Meera Ramachandran, Principal.

However, members of National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharti Parishad both refuted the claims. “We are a students body and are only trying to help students,” said Harsh Choudhary, NSUI president. Members of Akhil Bharti Vidyarthi Parishad looked equally dejected. “The College has an independent union and we in no way subscribe to DUSU. Hence there is no question of them coming inside,” said Mehra.
