"They were all vagabonds. This is why we haven't been able to identify those who are dead. All of the injured were rushed to LNJP, where two were declared brought dead while the third succumbed to injuries on Thursday afternoon. The truck loaded with heavy containers crushed them," a senior police officer said.
The incident took place below the Yamuna Bridge near ISBT Kashmiri Gate. The injured have been identified as Shahid, Haider, Abhishek and Amit. Police said the truck was coming from the direction of ISBT and going toward Tughlaqabad. The driver, identified as Fayaz, has been arrested.
"We have booked him for causing death due to rash and negligent driving. He said in his statement that he lost balance after a tyre got punctured," the officer added.
Further investigations are on in the case. Efforts are on to identify those who are dead. "We are contacting vagabonds who live in nearby areas. If no relative came forward, we will conduct the cremation after post-mortem examination," the officer added.
