The Hauz Khas police have arrested two men for allegedly cheating people by promising to supply blood for their patients admitted in a South Delhi hospital. But they would take money from the people and disappear.
The accused have been identified as Deepak (26), a resident of Uttam Nagar and Rakesh (24), a resident of Jaitpur, the police said. "There were complaints that some people have cheated the relatives of patients admitted at a prestigious south Delhi hospital. The duo used to promise relatives to provide blood and would disappear after taking the money," said a senior police officer.
Two days ago, a complaint was received from one Neeraj Kumar Rai of Mayur Vihar. He said three men had taken Rs 4,000 and an OPD card from him, promising to arrange for blood but never came back.
"Some information related to the accused were collected and a trap was laid near AIIMS flyover and the duo was arrested," the officer added.
After sustained interrogation, they told the police that they have cheated many other relatives of patients using the same method. They used to identify their
targets by visiting the hospital.
Police said Rakesh, who had earlier worked as a guard, was good at identifying people in need. They also said they used to obtain SIM cards on fake identify cards.
