The Delhi Police have arrested two persons, including a MCD employee, who were involved in printing and selling of forged birth certificates.
The police have recovered 537 forged birth certificates, a computer, printer and seven fake rubber stamps of the sub-registrar and registrar of different zones of Delhi.
“After a tip-off, a decoy customer was sent to purchase a forged birth certificate from one Ajeet Kumar Dass. He was apprehended while handing over the certificate to our officer. At his instance, another accused —Jagbandhu Dass, who works as a gardener in MCD Civil Line Zone — was also arrested,” Sanjay Kumar Jain, DCP (crime), said.
The duo used to charge Rs. 1,000 for providing a fake birth certificate. Ajeet is an employee at a printing press in New Chandrawal Nagar. He came in contact with Jagbandhu in 2009 and found the business lucrative. He then joined hands with Jagbandhu, who was in continuous touch with prospective clients.
Both Ajeet and Jagbandhu hail from Orissa.
“Jagbandhu gave Rs 9,000 to Ajeet for buying a computer and both of them started preparing forged birth certificate,” Jain added. Further investigations are on in the case.
