The crime branch of Delhi Police arrested two persons for allegedly murdering a software engineer and stealing his car a fortnight ago.
The victim, Prateek Trikha (26), a software engineer working in a Noida-based firm, was waylaid by motorcycle-borne men near his residence in Saraswati Vihar in Northwest Delhi on November 22.
The police have arrested Krishna Moorti (23) and Neeraj (21) from Vijay Vihar on Thursday night.
"Trikha was just 500 metres away from his residence when he was waylaid by the accused who asked him to step out of the car. They shot him dead when he refused," said Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
The police said a security guard who rushed to the spot after hearing gunshots, took Trikha to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
During interrogations, Moorti and Neeraj said they and their associates — Shrikant, Rajinder Prasad and Raja — were involved in the murder, Chand said.
"All were in dire need of money and Shrikant had a pistol. They saw Trikha smoking in his car and decided to rob him," added Chand.
Moorti is involved in over more than 18 cases of murder, robbery, burglary, possession of firearms and narcotics.
