Delhi Police on Monday arrested two persons including a woman for supplying illegal arms to criminals. Police have recovered seven sophisticated weapons, two spare magazines and five live cartridges from their possession.
"Kamla and her associate Naveen (28) were apprehended and during interrogation, it came to light that both were arrested in Haryana in 2009 when they along with their associates opened fire at police," Ashok Chand, DCP (crime) said. Kamla was convicted and later released in August 2010.
Naveen was also convicted in this case but since he was also involved in other cases of robbery, snatching and theft, he was released on bail in April 2011.
"Both again got together and shifted base to Ashok Vihar in Gurgaon. They got involved in gun-running. They procured weapons from a contact in Madhya Pradesh and started supplying it in Delhi and the NCR.," Chand added. They procured the sophisticated weapons for Rs 30,000-35,000 and further sold in Delhi and NCR for Rs 50,000-60,000. The contact to whom they sold the weapons has been identified. Efforts are on to apprehend him.
Kamla got involved in criminal activities after her husband's death. Initially, she was a bootlegger but subsequently graduated into violent crimes and became a gang member of Naveen, a history sheeter.
