Roxy, the three-month-old Labrador belonging to newlyweds Swati and Raunak Arora, might have grown up to be a good watchdog true to its breed but burglars struck a few years too soon.
The pup fell victim to a gang of burglars, who took it along in frustration when they found lugging around heavy expensive items from the second floor of an east Delhi house, impossible.
The Aroras had bought the puppy two months ago and had gotten extremely attached to it. “We moved into this house in January and brought it a week later. Both of us are extremely fond of pets and had decided to keep one even before our marriage,” said Raunak, who works with a private company. “Roxy was like family. It will be difficult to get over the loss. I hope police manage to trace it,” he said.
The couple was out for work when burglars broke into their second floor flat in Mayur Vihar phase II. “Both of us had left the house at 8:15 am and Swati returned at 2:15 pm and found the main door locked from inside. She went to a neighbour’s house and found the terrace door open. Swati teaches at a private school in Mayur Vihar.
Suspecting foul play, Swati called me,” Raunak added.
“When I entered into the house, everything was scattered. It seems they entered from the window and locked the main door from inside. Although they tried to take away electric items, they couldn’t do so because the house is at the second floor,” said Raunak. The couple saw their LCD television and microwave oven lying on the floor, too, and couldn’t locate their pup.
“In the complaint given to us, the couple has claimed Rs 50,000 and gold jewellery along with a Labrador dog are missing. A case of burglary has been registered,” a police officer said. Police said the burglars first tried to break open the door but failed. They then entered the house through a window.
The theft took place after the couple had left the house. The police suspect it to be an act of someone who knew the couple used to leave early.
