Sanket Dogra is having sleepless nights just thinking about the next two months.

The 17-year-old has taken his Class 12 board examinations and is waiting for the results. But that is not the only worry on his mind.

Dogra, a resident of Chandigarh, is confused about the Delhi University (DU) admission process this year.

“I have no idea if I have to go to Delhi to apply or if online registration will be available. When my cousin applied the year before last, the process was made clear in April itself. This year there is no final news even in May,” Dogra said.

While DU has said that the admission forms will be made available online as well as on counters, a final decision is still awaited. Last year, the vice chancellor had announced in mid-April that the practice of forms would be abolished.

This year, even in the second week of May a concrete plan has not been announced.

Even the dates of open days, which inform students about the application procedure and for which parents along with their children travel long distances to attend, have not been announced so far.

“We have no idea what to do. Booking tickets at the last minute is expensive as well as difficult. We hope to hear some concrete plans soon,” said Mahinder Nath, a resident of Shimla, whose daughter is seeking admission in DU this year.

Principals and teachers of various colleges have been inundated by queries regarding the admission process for this year.

“The university’s lackadaisical attitude is affecting students. Even we don’t know what is finally going to happen this time. In any case, we are busy with the exams as of now,” said a principal of a north campus college, on the condition of anonymity.

According to university officials, a final announcement will be made this week.

“We are finalising the changes and will come out with a final announcement in a couple of days,” said a senior DU official.
