Women can expect better maintenance amount from their estranged husband even though they may be asked by courts to make a last effort to save their marriage.
The government is incorporating these changes after the opposition in Rajya Sabha opposed amendments to Marriage Laws Bill in last monsoon session.
The Cabinet is expected to consider amendments to Marriage Law (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday in a bid to satisfy the opposition and see it through Parliament.
Government sources said that the six-month cooling period may be re-introduced in the bill on insistence of the opposition.
The much delayed FM policy for expansion of radio service to smaller towns and cities in its phase-III will also on the Cabinet’s agenda.
A group of ministers have recently approved e-auction of 839 radio stations over coming objections by the telecom ministry.
The GoM instructed the telecom ministry to release additional spectrum to the I&B ministry and the auction is estimated to fetch Rs 5,000 crore.
The Cabinet will also consider amendment in law to impose a total ban on manual scavenging with punishment for forcing someone to perform the derogatory act.
