University order on admission criteria confuses colleges

With Delhi University’s admission season nearing, confusion too seems to be on the rise.
The university has asked all colleges to submit the additional eligibility criteria for admission before April 23.
The problem, according to colleges, is deciding the criteria even before the courses have been finalised.
Additional eligibility criteria are those a college can reasonably demand from a student for admission in a particular course. Most colleges, for example, demanded that students should have studied mathematics in class 12 to take admission in Economics (honours) and B. Com (honours).
Now that students will be admitted in a discipline and her decision to go ahead with an honours degree will be decided after her third year, colleges are having problems deciding the additional eligibility without the course structure in hand.
The university administration, meanwhile, has requested for the material for getting the admission bulletin printed. Unless the admission bulletin has the details about the additional eligibility, a college cannot impose it later on.
So far, the syllabus of only eight courses has been finalised
According to senior DU officials, the remaining departments are expected to give their final syllabus only by April 21 following which colleges are supposed to hold meetings to decide how admissions will be conducted.
According to the principal of a north campus college, the schedule is too tight. The syllabus was supposed to be sent to the university by March end but departments have not stuck to the deadline, putting colleges in trouble.
Colleges and a number of teachers have for quite some time been complaining about the lack of communication from the university and also about the hurried manner in which everything is being pushed.
According to another DU principal, the deadlines for the four-year course should be managed in a better fashion and all details should have been made clear by April.
