A day after a 68-year-old retired Sanskrit teacher was found murdered at his Vasant Kunj residence in south Delhi, police said they are looking for his missing laptop and some documents.
“We are looking for a laptop that went missing from DK Joshi’s (the victim) house. His wallet, gold chain and mobile phone, however, were found to be intact,” said a senior police officer.
The victim used to live alone at his duplex house after the death of his wife two years ago. His son lives in the US with his wife and son.
“Since his family members are not around, we could not ascertain the list of things that are missing. It seems there is a deliberate attempt to make it look like a robbery,” officer said.
A team was sent to the Osho Ashram in Haryana on Monday, as Joshi used to visit the place every weekend.
“We have still not been able to unravel the mystery behind the woman’s wig, which was recovered from the scene of crime. We are waiting for his son to come back.” he added.
Neighbours said Joshi had rented out of one of the rooms in the house to four young men six months ago.
However, the police have not been able to get their details yet, as there is no mention of their names in the diary has been recovered from the house.
On Monday, police questioned Joshi’s maidservant and cleaner. They suspect that the accused, possibly more than one, may have gained “friendly entry” to the house and left from the rear door that was found ajar. Police have also recovered a pair of scissors and a dagger from the scene of crime. He had his walking shoes on and a ‘Himachali topi’ was lying near his body, police added.
Neighbours said they could hear the television set on till Saturday afternoon.
Police suspect the murder could have taken place a day ago as he was last seen on Friday evening.
