VHP calls for countrywide chakka jam

The VHP has given a call for a countrywide road blockade agitation on Wednesday in protest against the government’s plan to go ahead with the Sethusamudram project, reports Vijaita Singh.

Motorists in the city are expected to face traffic snarls on Wednesday, with the Vishva Hindu Parishad calling for a chakka jam protesting the government’s plan to go ahead with the Sethusamudram project, which envisages destroying a portion of the ancient Ram Setu bridge between India and Sri Lanka.

The police say traffic is likely to be disrupted at: Shakti Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Sector 6 Dwarka, Ring Road near Lajpat Nagar, Mukarba chowk, Magolpuri flyover, Raja Garden crossing, Nangloi chowk, Khajoori chowk, Liberty cinema, Anand Parbat-Sarai Rohilla flyover, Shastri Park crossing, New Delhi railway station, Green Park- Yusuf Sarai crossing, Nizammuddin flyover, Akshardham temple, Vikas Marg, old Yamuna iron bridge, Ashok Vihar, Kadkadooma flyover, Vikas Marg, Madhuban chowk outer ring road.

Meanwhile, five people were killed in separate road accidents in the city in the past 24 hours.

In the first incident took place in Uttam Nagar, Ashish (20) was crushed to death by a DTC bus on Monday night. The driver, Vedpal, has been arrested.

Two motorcyclists died in Jehangirpuri after a truck hit their motorbike on Monday night. The deceased were identified as Gopal (25) and Veeru (22).

Two call centre drivers, Ranjeet and Anand, were killed when the Indigo car they were travelling in hit a road divider and bumped into a tree in Mehrauli in the wee hours of Tuesday.
