“Lane driving is sane driving.” And if this is one aspect of traffic movement you are yet to understand, be ready to go the extra mile, quite literally. Hundreds of Delhiites, who often obstruct the movement of traffic leading to left or right direction or even straight, will soon have to drive extra miles to reach their destination.
To start with, traffic police have identified some strategic intersections where this menace causes huge congestion, especially during morning and evening peak hours and creates bunching of cars. At some signals, vehicles are unable to take the free left turn, which is usually blocked by others who do not have take that direction.
Most of these roads connect heavy traffic stretches where lane violations often create chaos, police said.
Take for instance the IP flyover. Vehicles need to go towards IP Flyover. If the vehicle does not stop on the lane on right and halts among those going straight, it will compulsorily have to go straight.
Traffic Police would mark the lanes prominently with white colour to segregate traffic."We want to incorporate the culture of lane driving. The practices of blocking the flow of traffic by violating lane also leads to accidents at times," Garg added. Those who do not comply with the direction would be challaned Rs 100 for lane violation "We are in the process of identifying other stretches across Delhi where this direction would be implemented subsequently," Garg said.
