A tour of the city on foot in this weather is perhaps one of the best ways to uncover the various enchanting facets of the Capital. Delhi By Foot, a group started by two youngsters — Ramit Mitra and Asif Khan, gives you the oppurtunity to explore.

“We started the group to give information about Delhi in a much more exciting way. It is good fun as we bring together elements of drama, story-telling, heritage, photography, food and culture. While on an average we get around 25 to 30 people for a walk, there are days that nobody appears, and then both of us do the walk on our own and explore. Ramit mostly does the photography and I lead the heritage walks,” says Asif.

These walks are of different kinds like the Food Walk at Shahjahanbad that takes place once a month, Food and Heritage walk at Nizamuddin, and Sufiana Walk around Mehrauli Dargah and Nizamuddin Dargah.

“The walks are very different from a regular touristy walk. If I show people around Delhi like a guide, it can get very boring. What we do is that we tell them about the place like it’s a story and include lots of Urdu shayari in it. This gives people a true flavour of the city,” adds Asif. On Saturday, a Summer Food Walk was organised around Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar. Another walk was also organised recently around Kashmere Gate, which revolved around the mutiny of 1857. “In this walk we took people to all the areas around Kashmere Gate and areas associated with the revolt, such as Nicholson’s cemetery.” says Asif.

The walks are done entirely on foot and on an average it’s three to four hours long.
